Love secondhand shops? Visit Shimokitazawa in Tokyo

©IKIDANENIPPON

Tokyo can be quite expensive for shopping but did you know there are plenty of secondhand and antique stores in the city? One such spot is Shimokitazawa, which has always been popular for its cool, fashion vibes and hipster style. A couple of train stops from Shibuya, Shimokitazawa has a buzzing culture. Each of the many secondhand stores dotted in the area have unique characteristics. The price range also varies greatly. In this feature, we talk about some of the relatively popular stores.

KINJI

This store is well known among the many secondhand stores. The main products are European and American fashion brands available at a reasonable price.

You will find some unique printed vintage shirts for men and women.

Other than clothing, you can also pick up shoes, accessories, antique dolls, belts and bags.

You can try all the items here before purchase. How cool are these used Dr. Martins?

A good spot to buy well-used products without spending too much.

Trefac Style

The entrance to this store may give the impression that its small but it actually stretches all the way to the back.

The stuff at Trefac Style is relatively high end. There are many high-fashion brands from around the world as well as famous Japanese brands; most of the items here are in relatively good condition.

The products are divided based on price range and expensive items are at the front while cheaper products (usually fast fashion) are at the rear.

If you are lucky, you may also find accessories and bags of your favorite brands. If you like something and it’s within your budget, don’t hesitate as finding another might be impossible.

Key Nuts

A very small store mainly selling used T-shirts. There are also many Burberry trench coats.

Lots of colorful, comfy clothing to choose from.

We found some of these vintage bags that are quite classy.

Flamingo

There is a huge flamingo installation by the wall at the entrance of the store. There are several branches located close by so you can check them all out.

The products are displayed particularly well here. Everything seems to be organized.

Goods don’t seem to be overcrowded and you can take a look without being flustered and overwhelmed.

You are also bound to find new, unused products here that are well designed. However, since they are new, the price may not be cheap. You will probably find more choices at other stores.

HAIGHT & ASHBURY

This store has been around for almost two decades, it is located on the second floor and easy to miss due to its understated entrance.

This shop has exclusive vintage products focusing on Victorian styles. They may seem quite expensive at first but their exclusivity makes them worth the price.

If you’re into vintage couture, high-end fashion, this is where you should be.

Along with clothes, you might also find retro toys and trinkets.

Shimokitazawa

In addition to these unique vintage shops, the streets and buildings of Shimokitazawa are also very distinctive. A great place to enjoy street art and vintage shopping.

If you love music, Shimokitazawa is particularly well known for its many vinyl and record shops.

There is lots to do here so much so that you can easily spend a day or two. Add this amazing little town on your must-visit spots in Tokyo.
